VecTech Joins Baltimore Tracks to Help Improve Diversity in Tech

October 21, 2021, Baltimore, MD

VecTech, a startup developing data and analytics tools for disease-carrying organisms, such as mosquitoes and ticks, announced today it has joined Baltimore Tracks, a coalition of companies committed to advancing the vision of turning Baltimore into a hub for diverse and talented tech professionals.

“VecTech recognizes the importance of building diverse teams including extending opportunities in tech to women, people of color, and other individuals who have been historically underrepresented,” said Tristan Ford, CEO of VecTech. “As VecTech grows, we want our team to reflect Baltimore and the communities we serve. We are excited to join the Baltimore Tracks network and commit to supporting this mission.”

As a Principal Member of Baltimore Tracks, VecTech has agreed to several strategic commitments that will help candidates from underrepresented groups feel empowered to apply to and engage with Vectech. By measuring our progress over time, we hope to constantly improve how we operate and recruit new talent.

These commitments include:

  1. Measuring results. Each year, VecTech will conduct an annual DEI Audit & Demographic Survey intended to provide a quantitative analysis of our organization’s state of diversity, equity, & inclusion. The information will be shared with the Baltimore Tracks network to measure the demographic composition of our collective workforce.

  2. Share Best Practices. VecTech will share ideas and information about our DEI efforts including best practices and lessons learned.

  3. Share Candidates. VecTech will share qualified candidates (with candidate consent) who apply for open positions, but aren’t hired immediately (prioritizing applicants from underrepresented demographic groups)

  4. Remove Degree Requirements. Vectech will not require a candidate to possess a four-year degree (e.g. Bachelor’s degree) or higher when recruiting candidates for open job positions, except where this is legally mandated or where specialization is critical for certain job functions (e.g. lawyer, finance, medical) or positions where third-party contract requirements mandate a degree (e.g. certain government contracts).

  5. Pay Interns. Any internship offered by Vectech will be paid, and our internship programs will strive to recruit candidates reflective of the demographic population of Baltimore, specifically focusing on underrepresented groups.

“We recognize that there’s more we can collectively do to support equitable and inclusive employment practices,” said Adam Goodwin, Chief Technology Officer of Vectech. “Joining Baltimore Tracks is a step in the right direction and we look forward to contributing and learning from the coalition.”
